You know, it is really becoming a common sight for us Techies at LPF. We see it more and more that Symantec software is loaded onto the client machines and an uninstall password is registered. Problem is that getting hold of this password is a hopeless mission!
Solution: Run regedit (Start -> Run -> Regedit). Navigate to :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\INTEL\LANDesk\VirusProtect6\CurrentVersion\Administrator Only\Security
Modify the “UseVPUninstallPassword” DWord, from 1 to 0.
Exit the editor and run through the uninstall process again.
Another Magic trick brought to you by the LPF Team!!

Gil, being in the IT trade myself, I can tell you that using third-party software is an option. However, it is not always the best option to use. I have found myself in the situation quite a few times where my registry gets bombed, due to such tools. It may work yes – just be careful!
Thanks for the input!

Thanks again Gil!
Your input is greatly appreciated!
You may agree, Symantec itself is quite depressing. I am not a fan of theirs at all.

Guys–for those of us much less tech-literate, what does it mean to “Modify the “UseVPUninstallPassword” DWord, from 1 to 0″? The field gives a large string of numbers beginning with “1″ — I changed it to “0″ thinking this might be what you meant, but it did nothing to fix the uninstall process. Thanks.

never mind…I got it. Thanks!
